LDTC Monthly Meeting - September 22, 2021

Dear LDTC Community:

Welcome back from what I hope was a restorative summer experience!  From my Longmeadow vantage point, I can attest that many members enjoyed the pleasures that summer provided but also remained busy, keenly aware that our democracy and our planet need our help in order to survive.

How LDTC members can meet the crises we face will be the topic of our Wednesday September 22, 2021 Zoom meeting at 7 PM.  With Secretary and Social Media Coordinator Erin Freed as our Zoom host, we’ll hear from four dynamic Democrats who’ll provide us with suggestions regarding how we can help.

Our first two speakers will be Senator Diana DiZoglio, who’s running for State Auditor, and Representative Tami Gouveia, who’s running for Lieutenant Governor.  Both candidates will provide their “take” on challenges facing our state and explain how they will address those challenges if elected.

Our third speaker will be Alex Bausch, Democratic State Committee Organizing Hub Lead, who’ll invite us to participate in a range of in-state and out-of-state efforts to combat voter suppression, elect worthy Democrats, and fight powerful right-wing political interests.

Our final speaker will be Erin Buechele, who’s in charge of Blueprint to ‘22, a major initiative launched by the Massachusetts State Party, to ensure voter mobilization, community partnerships, and campaign skills-building.

If you’re not a member of the LDTC, and would like to attend the meeting via Zoom, please send an email message to longmeadowdems@gmail.com to request the Zoom link to the meeting.   If you’re already an LDTC member, you should automatically receive the link in an email two days before the meeting. Please feel free to invite a friend (or friends) to join our meeting.

As a popular bumper sticker makes clear, “Democracy is NOT a spectator sport.”  As we face numerous assaults on our form of government and our environment, I couldn’t agree more that this is truly an “all hands on deck” moment.

P.S.—If you’d like to get started before our meeting, here’s a message from Alex Bausch about a September 2 event:

We’ve seen Trump Republicans across the country unable to accept their election losses and now they’re trying a power grab in California by attempting to recall Governor Gavin Newsom on September 14th. The people behind the recall are national Republican interest groups, big Trump donors, and oil companies who want to stop Governor Newsom from protecting the coast, fighting climate change and rebuilding after the pandemic.

So, we are organizing a phone bank on Thursday September 2nd to call voters in CA to vote NO on the recall. Deputy Executive Director of the DNC (and our friend) Roger Lau, will be our special guest. We'll start at 9 PM ET and hit the phones until 10:30 PM ET (6-7:30 PM PT in California). At 10:30 PM ET we'll break for cocktails (or mocktails). We're virtual so you'll be safe and home! This event is also being sponsored by the MassDems Campaign Services, The Organizing Hub and TLL. Please sign up at the link below!

As everyone knows, there are always a million different events happening from 8 AM - 8 PM but there are few events that allow folks to join at 9 PM! This is one of those due to calling in a different time zone. So, we would love to see as many of you join us as possible, especially as though there are very few excuses this one time :)

Please share the link far and wide. We'd love to show Roger and the rest of the people at the DNC that people in MA have their backs as well as CA Dems.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Democratically yours,

Alex Bausch, Organizing Hub Lead 847-648-1066, bausch.alex@gmail.com
